On this page you can look at our current curriculum overviews for the term.
 

Primary 1 This term our topic will be ‘Weather’ followed by ‘Under the Sea’

 

Languages

Writing: - this term we will focus on a variety of functional writing, including instructions and reports relating to our topics.  We will also be looking at poetry, writing weather poems and continuing to develop skills in personal and imaginative writing appropriate to our topics. 

Reading: - We will be reading books from our reading scheme both fiction and non-fiction. We will also be reading for information non-fiction books about our topics.

Listening & Talking – we will be talking about our experiments and findings and making video presentations and practising on listening to others.

   Mathematics             

This term your child will be learning addition to 10 then length.  As part of our topic we shall also be looking at weight and capacity.

In addition to our group work, as a class we shall also be collecting, handling and interpreting data about weather and sea life.

Health and Wellbeing

                      

Our Physical Education teacher Miss Bridgewater will be working on fitness this term, followed by creative dance.

 

Expressive Arts

Incorporating Art & Design,
Music, Drama and Dance.

                     

ART: - Art and craft work will be related to our topics, experiments and experiences.

Music: - Mrs Mutch our music teacher will be creating and recording a collection of music to suit different weather conditions.

Drama & Dance: - This session the children will be working on movement and dance using ‘Time to Move’ and ‘Let’s Move’ material related to both topics.

Social Studies or Sciences

Our topic this term is ‘Weather’.  We will be learning about changes in the environment related to the seasons and simple features of the weather with particular reference to water as rain, snow and ice.  After half term our new topic will be ‘Under the Sea’ focussing on living things and the processes of life.  We will be learning to distinguish features, name invertebrate groups and recognise stages in life cycles of plants and animals under the sea.

Religious and
                    
Moral Education

As part of our Religious and Moral Education the children will learn about Chinese New Year as another world religion and then move on to Christianity and the Easter story.

Technologies

Incorporating experiences
in craft, design, engineering,
graphics, food textile and
information technologies.   

 

This term we will be using web sites to support both our topics.

We will design and build weather measuring instruments and we might even have time to build a kite.

Text Box: In our activity area the children will work independently experiencing, craft, paint, construction, maths and language activities.  Activities will be linked to our topic and a rota will go out to parents who have volunteered to help and are disclosed, with the newsletter next week.  
All P1/2 parents are invited into the classroom to enjoy our soft start free choose morning with your child on Tuesdays 8.45 till 9.20.

Reading - read aloud with increasing fluency and  learn about terms used in written texts.

Mathematics

Subtraction of single digits and multiples of 10 from 2 digit numbers.

Shape-2D and 3D.

Place Value – numbers to 1000.

Symmetry - find lines of symmetry and make symmetrical patterns.

Health and Wellbeing

                           

Self esteem.

Identify things they are good at and others that they would like to be better at. Recognise good qualities in other people.

Large ball skills - develop skills and techniques and improve level of performance and fitness.

Our topic this term is the Arctic. The children will learn about the lands within the Arctic Circle, lines of latitude and longitude and about the way of life in the Arctic. They will find out about plants and animals in the Arctic and how climate change is having an effect on them. Compare Scotland and the Arctic.

Religious and Moral Education

 

The children will learn about some of the special books used by different religions: the Bible by Christians and the Torah by the Jewish religion.

Technologies

Incorporating experiences in craft,
design, engineering, graphics, food
textile and information technologies.

 

The children will use Information Magic in their work on databases and Power Point to produce a slide show for their topic.

 

 

 

 

Primary 4

Languages

Writing - develop personal writing and Writers Craft.

Reading- read aloud with increasing fluency and learn about terms used in written texts.

Mathematics

Multiplication using 2-10 times tables.

Division using 2-10 times tables.

Fractions - find ½ and ¼ of shapes and numbers, use mixed numbers and equivalent fractions.

Position, shape and movement- use grid references, co-ordinates and compass points.

Health and Wellbeing

        

Self esteem.

Identify things they are good at and others that they would like to be better at. Recognise good qualities in other people.

Large ball skills - develop skills and techniques and improve level of performance and fitness.

Reading – focusing on the novel ‘Out of the Ashes’ by Michael Morpurgo.

Listening and Talking – European country presentations.

Mathematics Circles

We will be working to

·        improve mental agility skills

·        revise all Level C skills

·        sit Level C National Tests.

Health and Wellbeing

                      

This term we will be working on relationships:-

·        building positive relationships

·        strategies for  saying ‘no’

·        keeping healthy

Expressive Arts     

           Incorporating Art & Design,
Music, Drama and Dance.

                             

Drama- resisting peer- pressure in decision making

Art – adopting the style of famous artists

PE – experimenting with dance and developing volleyball skills.

Music –listening to music by famous European composers.

Europe will be our focus with pupils researching different European countries. They will also be finding out how the European Union works and looking at how government operates in Scotland, Britain and Europe.

We will be working on Forces as our Science topic, with the support of Mr McDonald from Eyemouth High School.

Through discussing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from the pages of a children’s picture version, develop understanding and respect for different beliefs.
